York's Doctor's Row -- Welcome!

Nearly seven years ago, as newlyweds, my husband and I moved into this neighborhood, which encompasses the 300, 400 and 500 blocks of West Market Street in York, PA.

We had been looking at many city houses because we wanted a truly urban living experience. We wanted to be within walking distance to some interesting stores and shops and we wanted to raise a family in a diverse community.

Doctor's Row offered more than most neighborhoods. It was safe and it had an active neighborhood Association -- The Doctor's Row Neighborhood Association. But, more than that, it also had a bunch of other great attributes like being within walking distance of the Market and Penn Farmer's Market, Blue Moon Cafe, The York Emporium Used Book store and, of course, Sparky and Clark's Coffee.

I'm slightly addicted to Sparky's and will drink no other coffee with as much joy in my heart as I do Sparky's. And, I've had a lot of coffee in my life.

About us: We are the parents of twins and we work hard to live a good, conscious life while trying to maintain our late 1800s home.

We are not alone. This neighborhood boosts a great deal of wonderful, hard-working families trying to make their world a better place. For an urban neighborhood on one of York's most busy and famous streets, it's remarkably quiet (most of the time).

Just like other neighborhoods in Suburbia and beyond, we have birds that nest in our big trees lining our backyards.

Just like other neighborhoods in Suburbia and beyond, we have children laughing and playing and parents trying to make ends meet on tight budgets.

This blog will hopefully hightlight some of our neighborhood's best qualities because those same qualities are often overlooked in the media and, even, by our own residents. Posts will highlight some great houses for sale, including our own, as well as some fabulous and AFFORDABLE apartments for rent. It will hightlight some of our known, and less known, neighbors and give glimpes of some great rehabilitation efforts happening here as well.

Doctor's Row is a great place to live. We want more people to see it that way.
